As with most major cities, Las Vegas has a large percentage of residents who rent homes or apartments. However, many people have no idea what rights they have and many landlords take advantage of that by providing substandard properties in the name of saving money on repairs.
You may be entitled to withhold rent, terminate your lease, and even seek damages if your landlord fails to provide you with heat, air-conditioning, running water, hot water, electricity, gas, a functioning door lock, or another essential item or service. You may also have similar remedies if your landlord fails to provide something that is not an “essential item or service” but still effects whether the rental property is habitable. However, Nevada law has very strict notice requirements and timing issues with regard to how long a landlord has to make repairs.
